Tintypes Workshop

Three WeeksTuition: $225; Department fee: $50CED0716-1Experience the alchemical magic of this 150-year-old process. Learn how to make silvery tintypes. Day one, i’ll show you how to prepare the materials and introduce the basic techniques used to produce these hand-made images. we will make digital negatives. Days two and three, you’ll refine your techniques and you’ll have an opportunity to make a number of images on metal plates. Please bring a 4x5 digital image or a 4x5 negative.Prerequisite: None. Cyanotype/ Van Dyke Workshop
10 am - 3 pm
One Day WorkshopTuition: $75; Department fee: $20CED0709-1This one-day workshop will consist of learning both cyanotype (a blueprint process which provides permanent images in a beautiful range of cyan blue values) and VanDyke (brownish print based on the first iron-silver process). both processes utilize uV light. During this workshop we will learn several ways to use these processes (found-object, paper negative, hand-made negatives and/or digital negatives). Solvent Transfers/Cin Cole

One Day WorkshopTuition: $75; Department fee: $20CED0717-1Produce soft and dreamy images. In this one-day workshop we will be using newsprint, b&w or color photo copies to transfer images onto paper and/or other flat surfaces by using a solvent called citra solv (a natural non-toxic household cleaner). we will also be learning a modified version of the process cin cole and combining it with the citra solv transfer process. create color and dimension that was never there.Prerequisite: None. Polaroid Transfer Workshop
10 am - 3 pm
One Day WorkshopTuition: $75; Department fee: $20CED0704-1Learn the magic of manipulating your slide images using Polaroid transfer and emulsion-lift techniques. Experiment with techniques to create finished paper pieces. the process can alsobe applied to a variety of other surfaces. you will need several 35 mm slides (high contrast and saturated colors work best). bring additional art papers, balsa wood, smooth rocks, tiles etc. with which you wish to experiment (art papers will be supplied). slides will not be damaged.Prerequisite: None.
